Short description of Project

GIS-based analysis, mapping access to greenspace in Ottawa, Ontario. My research identified greenspace access points, evaluated the City of Ottawa’s targets for greenspace access, analyzed whether socio-economic factors impacted greenspace access, and identified the respective contributions of federal and municipal governments towards public access to greenspace. https://tspace.library.utoronto.ca/handle/1807/126535

Short description of internship with partner

My internship was with the National Capital Commission (NCC) in Ottawa, ON and Gatineau, QC. The NCC is a federal Crown corporation that is the long-term planner for federal lands, and the principal steward of nationally significant places in Canada’s Capital Region. As an urban forestry intern, I assessed damage in Ottawa’s Greenbelt following the “Derecho” extreme weather event in May 2022, supported arborist inspections around the campgrounds in Gatineau Park, conducted tree inventory for parks and pathways, completed pre-construction tree inspections at Rideau Hall (the official residence of the Governor General), and assessed potential tree planting sites for suitability and to determine site preparation needs.
